WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki is a spiritual healing practise that originated in Japan. It is known as an ancient healing art that was rediscovered about a hundred years ago by Dr Mikao Usui. Reiki is the Japanese word for Universal Life Force Energy.
Rei = Universal
Ki = Life Force Energy
We all have a Universal Life Force Energy. We are breathing because there is a life force energy surrounding us. This is is called Prana in India, Chi in China and Ki in Japan and is an energy body or auric field in addition to our physical body. It flows in the human body through “Meridians”, or “Chakras” and “Nadis”. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
The flow of Pranic energy around the body can be blocked due to habitual negative thoughts, anger, rejection, regret, resentment and guilt. Our state of mind has a physical effect on the body via the endocrine system. Others factors which block the free flow of Prana are diets deficient in micronutrients, toxins, injuries in the body, incorrect body postures & incorrect breathing. These factors lead to dis-ease in the body and disease. Western medicine and drugs tend to focus upon treating symptoms, not getting focused upon the root cause of the disease.
Reiki practitioners are said to ‘channel’ this energy from the universe, benefiting both the practitioner as well as the receiver. A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include healing, relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results.
Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in healing many physical ailments, relieving pain and disease, energising the body and creating beneficial effects. Reiki can help in treating long term illness, mental imbalances, joint pains, sciatica, headaches, general sicknesses, anxiety and depression. It enables us to remove mental blocks by relieving old traumas and mental sickness. It relaxes, balances and harmonizes the body energy. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
An amazingly simple technique to learn, the ability to use Reiki is not taught in the usual sense, but is transferred to the student during a Reiki class. This ability is passed on during an "attunement" given by a Reiki master and allows the student to tap into an unlimited supply of "life force energy" to improve one's health and enhance the quality of life. I have been attuned in all 3 levels: Reiki Level I, Level II and Reiki Master.
REIKI SESSIONS
The Reiki technique that is commonly practiced today is “hands on healing” or “palm healing”. The energies are guided by the universal positives, therefore there are no side effects or harm possible. In a traditional Reiki therapy session, the therapist uses meditation techniques to connect to the Universal Energy and by placing their hands on or above the clients main energy points or chakras, the healing energy is then transferred to the client. The hands are then placed upon various energy centers or Chakras, meridians and pressure points as required and the energy travels to wherever it is needed most. Through the influx of this additional energy, blockages within the client can be loosened and ultimately dissolved. As a result of this the client can feel lighter, more balanced and more energised. The treatment is non-invasive and the recipient remains fully clothed.
Whilst experiencing Reiki, individuals may enter a meditative state allowing them to connect with themselves deeply. This is the state in which clients are able to generate self-healing on all levels and access the vast knowledge already within us. Because of this it is not uncommon for a client to gain increased insight and intuition following a session, or to have visions or vivid dreams. Although Reiki is an intensely personal experience, the overwhelming feeling for many clients is a feeling of profound relaxation, warmth and restoration.
What you may feel during a Reiki session:
A Reiki session is a uniquely personal experience treatments may vary from each other and from each individual. Listed below are some of the main sensations you may experience:
-
Warmth, cold, tingling or electrical impulses/energy flowing through your body
-
Colours, memories replayed or visions in your minds eye
-
A feeling of heaviness, lightness or an out of body experience
-
Emotional releases - you may want to cry or laugh
-
Deep meditation and you may even drift off into sleep
Distance Treatments:
Distance Reiki treatments are absolutely possible since energy has no constraints with regards to distance and time. A distant treatment will feel much the same as a treatment in person. I would have a brief consultation with you over Skype first and we would agree on the date & time of the session. You would lie down and focus on receiving the energy whilst I send it to you remotely.

REIKI PRINCIPLES
The Reiki Principles can be used as a guide to living in harmony with ourselves and others. Trying to live by these principles "Just for Today" and in the current moment is all we need to do. If we fail one day then each next day is a new opportunity for us to try them again. This shows the gentle and tolerant spirit of Reiki which is universal and open to all.
1. JUST FOR TODAY, I WILL LET GO OF WORRY
2. JUST FOR TODAY, I WILL LET GO OF ANGER
3. TODAY I WILL DO MY WORK/EARN MY LIVING HONESTLY
4. TODAY I WILL HONOUR MY PARENTS/TEACHERS/ELDERS
5. TODAY I WILL BE KIND TO MYSELF & EVERY LIVING CREATURE
The original instructions for these principles was to sit every morning and every evening with hands in prayer position and repeat them aloud to yourself. Eventually they will become so committed to memory that one will automatically think of and use them in everyday life.
A little bit more about these principles:
Just for today, do not worry.
When we worry, we forget that there is a divine purpose to everything. Worrying causes us stress and tension. We are projecting into the future and not living in the present moment. "Just for today" means exactly that. We do not give ourselves big goals of "I will never worry again". That would be unrealistic. What we do promise to ourselves, is that we will try to live in the present moment and allow ourselves to experience the richness of "just today" without worry and stress. If you find yourself worrying, gently remind yourself to let go of the worry just for today. Making small baby steps we open up opportunities for ourselves to experience joy, freedom, and peace. With practice, you will experience positive emotions more often.
Just for today, do not anger.
Anger is a challenging emotion for many of us. We live in a fast paced world and there are many times throughout the day when we feel triggered, stressed, frustrated and angry. How do we deal with this? Do we deny our feelings and pretend we are not angry? No. Acknowledge your anger. Witness it. And let it transform. Anger is an emotion. E-motion = Energy in motion. It can transform. When you acknowledge and witness your anger, when you allow the energy to transform, you invite love and compassion. Just for today means again, focusing on the present day, not projecting too much into the future. Anger is more manageable if we think of the present day.
Earn your living honestly.
Earn your living honestly means that you will not cheat or steal. It also means that you will show up in your work with values that reflect good personhood. That you will give the best of yourself in your work and will serve others and humanity. It means that you will work hard every day and you will devote yourself to your work. It does not mean that you will work 75 hours a week with no breaks and no personal life of your own. It only means that when you work, you are fully present, serving others, and you give your best.
Honor your parents, teachers, and elders.
Honnoring our parents, teachers, and elders is not taught in Western Society. And yet, it is so important. It is our parents, our teachers, and our elders who helped us become who we are. They were there for us when we needed them. They shared their knowledge, skills, and wisdom. That is where our foundation comes from. We need to honor and respect that.
Show gratitude to every living thing and ourselves.
The last of the Reiki principles is about connecting with every living thing and our inner selves. Be kind to every living thing and most of all be kind to yourself. Kindness is so simple. When you are in a state of gratitude and kindness, you are connected to the wisdom of the Universe. You can feel the connection and Oneness. When you show kindness and express gratitude to every living thing, you will begin to feel that everything is interconnected. You will lose the veil of separation, your ego will begin to dissipate and you will begin to consciously perceive the realm of spiritual dimensions.
When you live your life according to these five Reiki principles, your life will be more fulfilled. You will be happier and even healthier as living according to these principles reduces stress and tension in our bodies.
